Tax brackets in 2027 · Rates unchanged, thresholds move

In short

The official 2027 federal tax brackets and standard deduction have not been published. The IRS releases them by Revenue Procedure in October or November 2026, calculated from C-CPI-U data for July through September. Barring new legislation, the seven-rate structure of 10, 12, 22, 24, 32, 35 and 37 percent stays in place.

If you have seen a table of 2027 tax brackets, it is a projection. The IRS has not published them.

What is settled

The rates. Barring new tax legislation, 2027 keeps the same seven brackets: 10, 12, 22, 24, 32, 35 and 37 percent.

The timing. The IRS publishes inflation adjustments by Revenue Procedure in October or November. The 2026 adjustments came out on October 9, 2025. Expect the 2027 figures on a similar schedule.

The direction. The standard deduction is indexed to inflation, so the 2027 amount will be higher than 2026’s. How much higher is the open question.

What is not settled

The thresholds. Every bracket boundary, the standard deduction, and dozens of other figures are calculated from C-CPI-U data for July through September 2026. Until that data is complete, the calculation cannot be run.

Note the index: C-CPI-U, chained CPI. It is not the same index used for the Social Security COLA, which is CPI-W. The two produce different numbers in the same year, which is why your benefit adjustment and your bracket adjustment do not match.

Why the difference matters

Bracket thresholds moving up is what stops a raise that only keeps pace with inflation from pushing you into a higher rate. When the adjustment lags inflation, you pay a higher effective rate on the same real income.

That is the whole mechanism. It runs automatically, and the Revenue Procedure is where you find out how it landed.

Questions people ask

Will my tax rate change in 2027?

Barring new legislation, no. The seven rates stay the same. What moves is the income level at which each rate starts.

Where does the IRS publish it?

In an annual Revenue Procedure, released through the Internal Revenue Bulletin on irs.gov.
